Spring (April to May)
Green countryside, wildflowers on the hills, sea temperature around 19 to 21°C by May. Most restaurants have reopened by mid-April. This is an excellent time for walkers, day trippers, and anyone who prefers warm but not hot weather. Flights and hotels are cheaper than summer.
Spring daytime temperatures in Pernera climb from 18 degrees Celsius in early April to 25 degrees in late May. Sea temperatures are 18 to 20 degrees and feel cold to most swimmers; locals do not really start swimming until mid-May. Wildflowers peak in April across the Cape Greco headland with poppies, chamomile and crown daisies. Hotel rates in April sit roughly 35 to 45 percent below July peak, which is the main reason to come now.
Early Summer (June)
Probably the best single month. Long days, sea around 23 to 25°C, air temperature in the high 20s, low rain risk, and the pre-July crowd has not arrived yet. Book ahead for the best apartments.
June sees sea temperatures rise into the 22 to 24 degree range by mid-month, at which point most visitors swim comfortably. Jellyfish are rare but occasional blooms do happen after prolonged easterlies; check with the beach lifeguard on arrival day. Sunset is around 8.15pm in mid-June so evening walks on the coastal path are genuinely relaxed. UV index is 10 to 11 between 11am and 3pm, so factor high-factor sun protection and rash tops for children.
Peak Summer (July to August)
Hot and busy. Daytime temperatures often hit 32 to 35°C, the sea sits at 26 to 28°C, and every restaurant along the coast is full. If you are bringing kids and need school holidays, this is your window. Book everything (hotels, car rental, popular tours) well in advance.

July and August daytime highs regularly hit 33 to 35 degrees Celsius with sea temperatures of 26 to 28 degrees. Humidity is moderate by Mediterranean standards because of the steady meltemi-style easterly breeze. The downside of peak season is price – hotels cost double what you pay in May, and restaurant waits lengthen. The upside is full entertainment programming, every taverna open, and reliable beach water. Book restaurants at least a day ahead on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Late Summer to Early Autumn (September to October)
The second sweet spot. September in particular is glorious: the sea at its warmest of the year, hot sunny days, thinner crowds. October gradually cools but is still swimmable. Many returning guests time their annual holiday for this window.
September is arguably the smartest month. Sea temperatures peak at 27 to 28 degrees Celsius, daytime air drops to a more comfortable 29 to 31 degrees, and crowds thin noticeably after the UK and German school holidays end. October sea temperatures are still 24 to 25 degrees and swimming is very pleasant. By late October, some beach cafes shorten opening hours and the Pernera harbour boat trips reduce frequency from daily to twice-weekly.
Winter (November to March)
Quiet, mild, and inexpensive. Good for couples wanting a long weekend with a relaxed pace, keen walkers, and anyone escaping a cold northern European winter. Expect some restaurants to be closed and shorter opening hours generally.

Winter Pernera is almost another town. Daytime highs of 15 to 18 degrees Celsius and sea temperatures of 17 to 19 degrees mean swimming is off the table for most, but walking the coastal path to Fig Tree Bay and onto Ayia Napa is genuinely pleasant. Many hotels and restaurants close from late November to late February. Confirm opening dates with your hotel before booking flights. Car rental is at its cheapest, often 15 to 25 euros per day.
Rainfall in winter averages 60 to 90mm per month across the southern coast, concentrated in short heavy bursts rather than long soaking days. Sunshine still averages five to six hours per day in December and January, so outdoor sightseeing at Cape Greco, the salt lake and the Troodos villages remains viable. Pack a lightweight waterproof jacket, closed shoes, and layers. Mornings are cool but by mid-afternoon sweaters often come off.
